ABOUT CALIFORNIA PROPOSITION 65

California's Proposition 65, also called the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act, was enacted in 1986. It is intended to help Californians make informed decisions about protecting themselves from chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.

Proposition 65 requires businesses to provide warnings to Californians about significant exposures to chemicals that cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. These chemicals can be in the products that Californians purchase, in their homes or workplaces, or that are released into the environment. Proposition 65 requires California to publish a list of chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. The list of chemicals, which must be updated at least once a year, has grown to include approximately 900 chemicals since it was first published in 1987.

Affected Lorex Products

Electrical wires, such as Ethernet Cables for Digital IP cameras or BNC cables for analog MPX cameras, can expose users to chemicals including lead.

Proposition 65 Label Requirements

Label statements on lead-containing wire or cable to be sold in California will typically say that:

"Handling the cord on this product will expose you to lead, a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer/birth defects or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling."
