Lorex weatherproof security cameras are given an environmental rating to indicate their suitability for installation in different indoor and outdoor environments. This rating is based on the camera's Ingress Protection (IP) rating. Many Lorex outdoor cameras, such as our Nocturnal Security Cameras, are IP67 rated, which protects them against extreme weather to ensure years of uninterrupted service in all types of climates.
Built for Extreme Weather
Lorex weatherproof security cameras can endure anything from torrential downpours to freezing snowstorms. So go ahead and place these security cameras where you need them most.
IP67 Water Rating
IP67 rated security camera ensure protection against the ingress of dust and moisture.
Cold Rating
Weatherproof cameras can withstand extremely cold climates and will continue to operate in temperatures as low as –40 °C / –40 °F.
Heat Rating
They are also built to tolerate blistering hot temperatures and will continue to operate in temperatures as high as 60 °C / 140 °F.
What is an IP rating?
The IP rating tells you how resistant the equipment is to dust and liquids. It is a simple code that covers a range of international standards for enclosures and electrical equipment. This code was developed to provide customers with more information about how weatherproof an enclosure is, rather than just claiming that it is weatherproof.
What does the IP rating mean?
IP ratings are given as a two-digit code, such as IP54 and IP65. The first digit represents the level of protection against dust; the second digit represents the level of protection against fluids. The higher the number, the stronger the level of protection.
Outdoor Installation Tip
For outdoor installations, it is recommended that you position your cameras in a sheltered location even if they are weather resistant or weatherproof rated. Under shelter, the camera lens is protected from adverse weather conditions such as rain and snow, which can affect image clarity. Consider mounting the camera underneath an eaves or another structure that will protect the camera against the elements.
