  • Display: Confirm the monitor / TV is set to the correct input (HDMI or VGA) and the cable is fully seated on both ends.
  • Cameras: Verify each camera Ethernet cable is firmly connected to a built-in PoE port, router, or PoE switch as applicable.
  • Network: Confirm the router cable is connected to the NVR LAN/WAN port.
  • Storage: If you’re missing recordings, confirm the HDD is detected, formatted, and recording is enabled.
Tip: If the NVR is responsive but behaving unexpectedly, reboot it from Main Menu > Settings > System > Maintenance.

NVR does not power on

  • Verify the included power cable is securely connected to the NVR and a working outlet.
  • Try a different outlet or surge protector.
  • Make sure the rear Power Switch is turned on.
  • Disconnect non-essential accessories (USB devices, cameras, external storage) and try powering on again.
Note: Always use the power cable supplied with the recorder.

No video signal / display output issues

  • Check that the HDMI or VGA cable is securely connected to both the NVR and the monitor / TV.
  • Make sure your monitor input matches the connection you are using.
  • If the screen is blank or unsupported, lower the output resolution.

To change output resolution: Right-click twice in Live View > Main Menu > Settings > System > General > System > Output Resolution.

Output Resolution

Tip: If Auxiliary Screen is enabled, the VGA output uses its own settings under System > Auxiliary Screen.

Camera not showing / offline

  • For cameras connected to built-in PoE ports, make sure the Ethernet cable is firmly connected and wait 30 to 60 seconds for the camera to initialize.
  • Check the camera’s connection status in the camera list (Main Menu > Settings > Channel > Camera)
  • Verify the channel status in Main Menu > Settings > System > Information > Channel.
  • If needed, try a different PoE port or Ethernet cable.
  • If the camera is on your local network instead of a PoE port, re-scan or add it manually from the camera list.

Camera shows red status after being added

A red channel status usually means there is an authentication mismatch between the camera and the recorder.

  1. Go to Main Menu > Settings > Channel > Camera.

How do I use ONVIF?

ONVIF is a camera connection protocol that can be selected when adding compatible IP cameras to the NVR over your local network.

For cameras connected through the same router or an external PoE switch, the recorder can search for available devices or you can add the camera manually.

  1. Connect the camera to the same local network (LAN) as the NVR using a router or external PoE switch.
  2. Go to Main Menu > Settings > Channel > Camera.
  3. Click Start Search to scan for available cameras on the network.
  4. If the camera appears in the results, select it and click Add.
  5. If the camera does not appear, click + Add under Operate to add it manually.
  6. Enter the camera’s:

    NVR front panel

    • IP Address
    • Protocol = ONVIF
    • Port
    • Username
    • Password
    • Remote Channel (if required)
  7. Click OK to save. If the connection is successful, the camera will appear in Live View.
Note: Cameras connected directly to the recorder’s built-in PoE ports are detected and added automatically. Cameras connected through the local network must be searched for or added manually.
Important: If the camera does not connect, verify the camera’s IP address, port, username, and password, then try adding it again using the ONVIF protocol.

What cameras are supported?

This recorder is designed for compatible IP cameras. Cameras can be connected directly to the recorder’s built-in PoE ports or through your local network using a router or PoE switch.

The recorder also supports common network interoperability features such as ONVIF and RTSP.

For the best results, check the Lorex Compatibility Chart and look up your camera model to confirm compatibility before connecting it to the NVR.

Tip: To take advantage of full 4K recording, use compatible 4K (8MP) IP cameras. If you’re mixing camera models, always verify each one in the compatibility chart first.
