How do I connect compatible Lorex IP cameras to an X Series NVR using ONVIF?

Some compatible Lorex IP cameras can be connected to an X Series NVR using the ONVIF protocol. Before adding the camera to the recorder, some camera models must first be initialized through the camera’s web interface.

In general, setup includes connecting the camera to your local network, finding the camera’s IP address, initializing the camera, creating an admin password, and then connecting the camera to an available PoE port on the back of the NVR.

Note: For full step-by-step instructions, including how to initialize the camera and check the camera status on the NVR, see How to Connect Compatible Lorex IP Cameras to an X Series NVR Using ONVIF.
Important: Before setup, check the Lorex Compatibility Chart to confirm that your camera model supports connection to an X Series NVR.

What cameras are supported?

This recorder is designed for compatible IP cameras. Cameras can be connected directly to the recorder’s built-in PoE ports or through your local network using a router or PoE switch. The recorder supports up to 8 channels total.

The recorder also supports common network interoperability features such as ONVIF and RTSP.

For the best results, check the Lorex Compatibility Chart and look up your camera model to confirm compatibility before connecting it to the NVR.

Tip: To take advantage of full 4K recording, use compatible 4K (8MP) IP cameras. If you’re mixing camera models, always verify each one in the compatibility chart first.

How do I add the NVR to the Lorex Connect app?

  1. Download and open Lorex Connect for Android or Lorex Connect for iPhone.
  2. Create an account or log in.
  3. Tap + Add device and select Recorder.
  4. Keep your phone and NVR on the same network during setup.
  5. Enter your NVR password to complete pairing.

If the app cannot find the recorder automatically: In the app, tap My recorder is on a different network than my Lorex Connect app. On the recorder, go to Main Menu > Settings > System > Lorex Connect, then scan the QR code shown on the recorder screen and follow the in-app steps.

Note: For remote viewing from the app, keep the NVR wired to the router. For 4K viewing, the manual recommends at least 6 Mbps upload speed per 4K channel and 24 Mbps for the entire system.

How do I access the recorder in a web browser?

You can access the recorder from a web browser on the same network.

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Enter the recorder’s IP address in the address bar, then press Enter.
