U3 Series - Lorex Connect U3 4K or 2K+ POE Camera - Troubleshooting Guide

Product-Specific Troubleshooting

This article discusses common troubleshooting problems regarding the U3 Series – CN201 2K+ IP PoE Camera and the U3 Series – CN251 4K IP PoE Camera, both bullet and turret versions.

I need to reset my camera

  1. With the compartment cover removed, locate the reset button.
  2. Press and hold the reset button for at least 10 seconds until the camera restarts.
  3. Release the button and allow the camera to reboot. The camera will be restored to factory default settings.
Resetting the camera will erase all custom settings.

I need to optimize the placement of my camera

Here are some strategic camera placement tips to ensure optimal coverage.

  • Entry Points: Install your cameras near entry points such as doors, if you want to see who is entering and exiting.

  • Avoid Obstructions: Identify critical viewpoints that offer a clear line of sight. Avoid obstacles within your home that could obstruct your camera's view.

  • Consider Lighting Conditions: Be mindful of lighting conditions, ensuring your camera is not pointing directly into bright light sources. Position your camera to take advantage of natural or existing lighting for optimal image quality.

  • Camera Height: Install your cameras at an optimal height to deter tampering by children and pets while providing a clear view.

  • Camera Tilt and Angle: Tilt your camera slightly downward to capture facial features and minimize the risk of glare. Experiment with different angles to find the best view.

  • Compliance with Laws: Be aware of privacy laws and regulations related to surveillance cameras in your region. Avoid pointing your cameras directly into neighboring properties.

I need to install my camera

Follow the Turret Installation Guide or Bullet Installation Guide for step-by-step guidance.

I need to replace/Insert an SD card

  1. Use a screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the compartment cover.
  2. Remove the cover to reveal the microSD card slot and the reset button.
  3. To insert the microSD card: Slide the card into the slot until it clicks into place.
  4. To remove the microSD card: Gently press the card inward until it clicks, then release to eject.
  5. Reinstall the compartment cover and tighten both screws to maintain a weather-resistant seal.

My camera is not showing on the NVR live view

  1. Confirm the Ethernet cable is securely connected to the camera and to one of the NVR’s PoE camera inputs.
  2. Check that PoE power is enabled for the channel: right-click the Live View screen, go to Settings Menu > System Settings > Camera > POE Power, and make sure the channel is toggled on.
  3. If the camera is connected through a router or PoE switch instead of directly to the NVR, manually add it from Add Camera and search for devices on the same network.
  4. Try another Ethernet cable or another PoE port to rule out a cable or port issue.

For detailed steps, see the User Manual.

Motion alerts are too frequent or triggered by irrelevant movement

  1. Adjust the motion detection area so the camera ignores high-traffic or moving-background areas, such as roads, trees, or flags.
  2. Lower the sensitivity slider under Motion Detection settings in the NVR.
  3. Use Smart Motion Detection and enable only the target types needed, such as Person or Vehicle detection.
  4. Set a schedule so motion alerts only run during relevant times.
  5. Click Apply after changes so the updated detection settings are saved.

For detailed steps, see the User Manual.

The camera image is too dark, too bright, or has glare

  1. In the NVR, open Image Settings from the Live View menu.
  2. Adjust brightness, contrast, saturation, hue, or sharpness as needed.
  3. Enable or adjust WDR / backlight settings if the camera is viewing a high-contrast scene, such as a doorway, driveway, or area with direct sunlight.
  4. Reposition the camera if it is aimed directly into sunlight, since direct sunlight can cause glare and may damage the lens over time.

For detailed steps, see the User Manual.

The camera is connected to the NVR, but recordings are missing

  1. Check the NVR recording schedule under Storage > Record Schedule.
  2. Confirm the correct channel is selected and that continuous, event, or alarm recording is enabled for the desired days and times.
  3. Verify that the NVR hard drive is installed, formatted, and not set to stop recording when full.
  4. If overwriting is enabled, older footage may be automatically replaced by newer footage when the hard drive fills up. Back up important clips before they are overwritten.
For detailed steps, see the User Manual.
