LNB8973 nocturnal 4K resolution security camera

4K security monitoring

At the center of this security camera is a cutting edge 8.51 MP image sensor. This sensor is capable of recording 4K video, which is especially important for security camera footage. 4K footage will ultimately provide you with the best chance to capture useable evidence should an incident ever occur. (It is important to note that this 4K security camera does not require a 4K television or monitor for use. The additional resolution will simply be there for you should you need to use the video as evidence.)

4K nocturnal security camera resolution chart

Over 8 million pixels

This 4K resolution security camera contains 4× the amount of pixels as a 1080p security camera. Instead of recording at a pixel ratio of 1920 × 1080 (a total of 2,073,600 pixels), this 4K camera can record at a pixel ratio of 3840 × 2160 (a total of 8,294,400 pixels). This higher amount of pixels offered by this 4K security camera allows for much better digital zooms. This means that when you spot something in your footage that you need to zoom in on, specific details, such as facial features, will remain visible for longer as you zoom in further and further into the image.

zoom lens dome security camera

4× optical zoom security camera

This nocturnal IP security camera includes a unique zoom lens, otherwise known as a motorized varifocal lens, that enables remote customization of your viewing area (and focus). Focus on a small area in astonishing detail thanks to the 4× optical zoom or survey a larger scene for maximum coverage. These adjustments can be easily made with your Lorex NVR or through our free mobile apps.

Autofocus zoom lens

Auto-focus capabilities

Achieving the correct focus hasn't always been easy with security cameras that can zoom in and out. That is not the case with this security camera. Regardless of what focal length you need, the camera will automatically adjust the focus so details are always fully distinguishable and crisp.

long range night vision security camera nocturnal

Long range night vision

Don't fear the dark any longer. Nocturnal security cameras come with high powered infrared LEDs that flood the scene in front of the camera in infrared light. Invisible to the naked eye, but not to the camera, these infrared lights will allow your security camera to see in complete darkness. With the addition of external lights, the night vision range for this camera can reach up to 250ft.

color night vision example

Color Night Vision (CNV™)

Add external lights around your nocturnal security camera to utilize our revolutionary Color Night Vision technology. With CNV™, you will be able to capture a whole new layer of detail, such as the color of a car or the color of a person's clothes. Please note that the more ambient light, the better the color night vision will be. If there is only a little or no external light sources at all, the night vision will remain in black and white.

security camera with Sony Exmor R CMOS sensor

Sony Exmor R™ CMOS sensor

The image sensor at the core of this camera is not your typical image sensor. It is an incredibly sophisticated Sony Exmor R™ image sensor. This sensor uses back illuminated pixel technology for exceptional low light performance. The sensor also shields the video from excessive feedback and video noise by passing the signal through an analog noise reduction program before converting the video signal to digital. Afterwards, a secondary digital noise reduction filter is applied, allowing the image to remain crystal clear.

back illuminated pixel image BiP back illumination image sensor

Back illuminated pixel technology

With a front illuminated image sensor, light energy (photons) have to travel through a layer of metal wiring and transistors before reaching the image sensor's light sensitive area (photo-diode). These obstructions would diminish the amount of light that is ultimately captured. That is not the case with this security camera's back illuminated image sensor. The light no longer has to pass through that layer of wiring, which drastically improves the amount of light captured. This vastly enhances low-light performance and results in less digital noise to keep your security footage clean and clear.

electronic shutter eShutter nocturnal security camera

eShutter™

This security camera automatically knows how to optimize the brightness of the video while minimizing motion blur thanks to its electronic shutter. An electronic shutter, as opposed to a mechanical shutter, does not rapidly open and shut with every picture (or frame). Instead, the image sensor accumulates light for a set amount of time (anywhere between 1/3 of a second to 1/100000 of a second), then resets (like the shutter closing) and gets ready for the next frame. In essence, a high shutter speed will provide the least amount of motion blur. However, a high shutter needs a lot of light, so finding the right balance can be difficult. Luckily, you don't have to worry about this, as the camera's eShutter™ figures it out for you.

IR cut filter gif nocturnal security camera

Active mechanical lens filter

As evening fades into night, this security camera will automatically shift into infrared night mode. In fact, if you are close enough, you will be able to hear a noticeable click the moment this happens. This is the Active Mechanical Lens Filter, otherwise known as the IR Cut Filter, disengaging. Without it, UV and infrared rays would be allowed to enter the lens during the day, causing distortions and discoloration to the video. This filter also reduces the effects of atmospheric conditions such as haze, to create sharper images with more depth and finer, richer color gradation. The filter will then automatically click back into position once there is enough natural light.

30 FPS nocturnal 4K security camera

Real-time 30FPS recording rate

Choose to record 4K resolution at 15 frames-per-second (FPS) or record at a real-time 30 FPS rate at 2K (3MP) resolution. Recording at 30 FPS will provide you with exceptionally smooth on-screen movement and provide you with more frames to choose from when reviewing footage.

HDR nocturnal security camera

Enhanced security monitoring with HDR

This security camera uses HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology to ensure that you capture the most important details, regardless of lighting conditions. Dynamic range is measured as the difference between the brightest point and the darkest point of the video. HDR technology uses this difference to automatically adjust the picture's brightness, resulting in optimized, highly-detailed security video.

DNR nocturnal 4K security camera

Increased clarity in low-light situations

This camera uses DNR (Digital Noise Reduction) technology to filter out digital noise from low-light scenes, as well as any noise caused by motion. By eliminating graininess, your camera provides a cleaner, more accurate image with better clarity, sharpness, and improved motion detection. It will also help reduces video file sizes as well, giving you greater disc space for storage.

security camera with auto white balance AWB

Auto white balance

Colors must be reproduced authentically in your security camera footage for useable evidence. Thankfully, this security camera will automatically adjust the color settings so that white areas in real life will be reproduced as white in your footage. Having a proper white balance will then consequently ensure that all other colors will be accurate. This camera also offers presets and total white balance customization through the NVR as well. These can be used for additional levels of white balance control to suit your needs.

HEVC logo H.265 security camera model LNB8973

HEVC / H.265 compression

Keep the 4K footage without the 4K file sizes thanks to this camera's cutting-edge HEVC compression technology. HEVC stands for High Efficiency Video Compression (also known as H.265 or MPEG-H Part 2), and is used by the camera to compress video file sizes without any noticable difference in quality. Please note that an NVR capable of receiving this type of compression is necessary to utilize this feature.

Installation and Customization

easy to install IP security camera

Easy PoE installation

This security camera only needs a single Cat5e ethernet cable to connect it to a compatible NVR. This cable provides video transmission, power to the camera, a stable network connection, and installation flexibility up to 300ft* (as the camera does not need to be plugged into a nearby power source).

Regional motion zones security camera

Regional motion zones

Use your NVR to program this camera with up to four different motion zones. These zones can be customized to adjust the sensitivity (the amount of movement required to register that movement) and threshold (how much movement is required before creating a motion "event") of the camera. This means that more important areas, such as a doorway, can be set to make any movement at all trigger recording (or create a motion event), while other sections of the frame, like a tree, would need a much higher level of motion.

Privacy masking security camera

Privacy masking

In some cases, there are sections of the camera's field of view that you simply do not want it to record. Inside windows or perhaps your pool / hot tub, are good examples of this. Thankfully, you can use your NVR to literally mask out these sections by drawing a square or rectangle over the areas you don't want to record.

nocturnal security camera custom video orientation

Custom video orientation

Don't worry about installing this camera the "right side up." In fact, there is no right side up. You can easily change the visual orientation with the NVR after installation. The video feed can be rotated 90°, 180°, and 270°. It can also be flipped upside down and mirrored.
