FCC Notice Regarding Certain Legacy Surveillance Equipment
On June 26, 2026, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) released Public Notice DA 26-635, which prohibits the importation and marketing of certain previously authorized “covered” equipment that was added to the FCC's Covered List in 2024 or earlier. This prohibition takes effect on July 16, 2026, ten days after publication in the Federal Register on July 6, 2026.
Some Lorex-branded products are produced by a company whose products are on the FCC's Covered List because they cannot be marketed or sold if the equipment is used for one of the following purposes:
- Public safety;
- Security of government facilities; or
- Other national security purposes.
The new prohibition under DA 26-635 does not create a blanket ban on equipment produced by that manufacturer. It does not restrict, and Lorex will continue with:
- The sale of remaining inventory from that manufacturer to general commercial and residential customers whose intended use falls outside the categories listed above;
- The use, operation, service, and support of equipment that customers have already purchased, regardless of when it was purchased, so long as the equipment's current use does not fall within a restricted category;
- Sales of any Lorex product line that is not produced by a manufacturer on the Covered List.
Because federal law restricts sales for the specific purposes identified above, Lorex may ask customers to confirm the intended end use of certain products before completing a purchase and may decline or cancel orders if the intended use falls within a restricted category.
This notice is provided for informational purposes and reflects our understanding of DA 26-635 as of the date below. It is not legal advice. Customers with questions about how these rules apply to their specific situation should consult their own legal counsel. For questions, contact sales@lorex.com.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the FCC's new rule, in plain language?
On June 26, 2026, the FCC issued a notice of a new rule (DA 26-635) that prohibits companies like Lorex from importing or marketing certain older, previously authorized equipment produced by certain manufacturers if the equipment is going to be used for the purpose of public safety, security of government facilities, or other national security purposes. The rule is effective as of July 16, 2026.
Does this mean I can't buy Lorex products anymore?
No. Only a subset of our lineup is affected, and even for those products, the restriction applies to specific uses — not to general commercial or residential purchases for other purposes. Most customers will see no change at all.
I already own a Lorex camera system that uses technology from a manufacturer on the FCC's Covered List. Do I need to stop using it or replace it?
No. The FCC rule does not affect equipment you already own. You can keep using, servicing, and getting support for your existing system. If you are using the equipment for one of the restricted purposes — public safety, security of government facilities, or other national security purposes — there may be limitations on the replacement parts Lorex can provide to you.
Which products are affected?
Some products sold by Lorex are manufactured by, or incorporate components from, a manufacturer whose products are on the FCC's Covered List, but only if those products are being used for one of the restricted purposes. View the specific SKU list.
Can I still buy these products for my home or business?
Yes, if your intended use is for a general residential or commercial security purpose other than the restricted purposes — for example, monitoring a home, retail store, warehouse, or private office not used for a restricted purpose. The FCC's restriction applies to use for the purpose of public safety, security of government facilities, and other national security purposes.
I work for a school district, utility, or municipality — can I still buy?
It depends on how the equipment will be used. Because the rule is use-based rather than a blanket ban, we may ask a few questions about the intended application before completing orders in this category. Please contact us directly so we can walk through it with you.
Why does this rule exist?
The FCC has determined that equipment from certain manufacturers poses national security risks when used in specific sensitive contexts. This determination has been in place since 2021; the new notice extends import and marketing restrictions to products that were previously authorized by the FCC. These restrictions previously applied only to certain new products that the FCC had not yet approved.
Is Lorex doing anything wrong by continuing to sell this inventory?
No. The FCC notice explicitly permits continued sale of previously authorized equipment outside the restricted use categories, and it does not require companies to stop selling existing inventory for general commercial and residential use for other purposes.
What counts as “other national security purposes”?
The FCC has interpreted this term to include a variety of government, commercial, and military assets related to the “national defense or foreign relations of the United States.” If you're uncertain whether your use case falls into a restricted category, please contact us so we can discuss your specific situation before you order.
Will this affect pricing, availability, or support for my existing system?
No. Pricing, product support, warranty service, and firmware updates for equipment you already own are unaffected by this notice, except that there may be limitations on the replacement parts Lorex can provide to you. Lorex's pricing remains available online.
Where can I read the actual FCC notice?
