Digital Video Recorders (Analog)
DVR systems use analog cameras that connect to the recorder with an RG59 Siamese coaxial cable. This specialized cable bundles two lines in one jacket:
- Coaxial (video) – Sends the raw video signal and data to the DVR.
- Power wire – Delivers power to the camera from an adapter located near the DVR.
This design allows each camera to receive both power and video through a single run of cable. The cameras don’t need to be near a wall outlet; instead, all connections (video + power) are managed at the DVR location, where the recorder and power supply are set up.
Another key difference is that analog cameras send raw, unprocessed video data to the DVR. The DVR then digitizes and processes the footage before recording and playback. This is why DVR systems are:
